David had great success Saturday at the Black Dog, teaching a class of 18 new people. I had about 75 new people at the lesson at Mandragora's St. Paul JCC event. So we are hoping for some new folks at lessons soon. Come and join them at lessons this week!
Tuesdays: Remember that I always start people in close embrace as soon as possible. That's because it is how tango is danced, and if you don't start out in close embrace you'll just have to start over when you do go to close embrace. Also, people who start in open develop bad habits that are very hard to correct. Don't discover this too late! In my beginning classes we cover the most important elements of basic tango: embrace, walk, crosada and ochos. 6:30 Intermediate: We are continuing to work on the rather challenging cross-foot system we did last week. Don't give up! Plus I'll add something easier and very fun. Old Arizona code: push 2 and 4, then 1,3,5.
Tuesday Night Party is still Tuesdays at 9:30. I received mostly positive comments on moving it, especially now that Eli will not have his Thursday practica anymore. But these changes won't happen until Feb (which is milonga month, remember!)
Thursday: Follower's at 7, advanced technique at 8. Last week we did volcadas and show moves, since we did a show at JCC. It was so fun we'll do it again!
Saturday: It's time for the Blues again! This Saturday the 23rd is traditionally the Blues Saturday with workshops in Tango to the Blues and Blues Dancing, which we haven't had in too many months.
We'll start with a Blues Dance lesson at 7:00. That extremely fun and sexy dance that is deceptively similar to tango. $10. Then Tango to the Blues lesson at 8:00, at 3142 1st Ave S. This will help you to recognize which blues music is similar to tango so that it is danceable. Plus we'll dissect some tango moves to fit them on the blues dancefloor. $10
Then we'll head out to a local bar to practice what we've learned.

Coming Up: Canyengue workshops Saturday Jan 30th. I know it's long overdue! Many who have taken Canyengue have forgotten what they've learned, many have not had the opportunity to get to know this fascinating tango dance. There is a lot of Canyengue music being played at local dances - are you dancing Canyengue to it or just your regular salon tango? Those who can recognize the difference are those who are truly care and understand tango. Don't miss them! Preregister at lois at mndance.com
Wednesday January 27th: New dance classes! As always, these classes will start you out right, or fix your issues. All classes ALWAYS emphasize excellent technique, that will make your dancing effortless and beautiful, and make you very popular as a dancer.
7:00 West Coast Swing: Very popular and very versatile! Usually danced to Blues music, it is also big in the Country world, swing world and even in tango. Often called the "ladies dance" because the follower has a large voice and a lot of room for playing.
8:00 Salsa series!, 5 weeks. Salsa is a lot of fun, and great exercise. But it is so much more fun when it is done right. If you or your partner have been frustrated with salsa classes, or your dancing is not a comfortable as you know it can be, you gotta come to these classes! The first week will be beginning, so if you have some knowledge of salsa you may want to start the second week.
$50 in advance for 5 classes, $12 per class. Preregistration is encouraged!
Classes held at 3142 1st Ave S., Minneapolis, MN 55408
We will also have a couple of dance outings, so that you can practice what you have learned with other members of the Twin Cities dance community.
