Wow - what a great turnout, and what a great time! We were having so much fun, we almost missed midnight!
In addition to all the regulars, we also had visitors from outside the community, which really made it fun. People who never tangoed came just to see what a tango dance was like, and we really showed them a good time.
And the best news, we made almost $700 for charity! Thank you for your extra donations. What a great community!
This event really showcased what I believe tango is all about - it's not about competing, knowing more steps, showing off or getting lots of dances. It's about making your friends feel good. Which makes you feel good. We can all feel really good about this event.
Special thanks to Sandra Uri, who donated all the decorations, and set them up and took them down, Christopher Everett, who took care of all the sound equipment and the DJ'ing, with a set of alternative music by Gibson, Bob Barnes, Becky, Dave, Mike Hill and Sandra who donated equipment, Pauline and Steve Lee who helped with publicity. The Cleanup Crew - Lynne, Don, Scott, Steve & Sandy, Jeanine & Paul, Gilbert, Lowell, Jean, and others that I can't believe I'm forgetting - without you the $200 deposit would not have been returned.
And of course, David Gardner, who was crucial to me - there through all the planning, budgeting, shopping, cooking, setup and, finally, all the dishes and clean-up, which is still going on. He did the work, leaving me some time to dance and have fun with all of you. What a guy.
We do have some leftovers, which you will probably see at the Tuesday night milongas. (No leftover champagne, though...) As for all the requests for the recipe for the chicken - my recipe's are like my tangos - I rarely can duplicate them.
