This week we'll be looking at transitions. How do you move from one element to another? We'll look at what to use when the music is right, and the floor conditions require it. What's the difference between Tuesday and Saturday beginning class? Saturday is a little more true beginners - very basic technique stuff. Tuesday's students are moving on to make more of the basic elements work better.

Thursday is Fun with Canyengue. I have been surprised to hear of the people who still don't know what this is. If you're doing leg wraps to Julio De Caro, ewww! 8:00, good for advanced beginners and above.

Saturday - Tango to the Blues! We haven't done this really fun night for a couple of months because of the Outdoor Tango, but we're back! Details will follow.

I read recently on an international forum a post from a tango dancer that he believes that as a tango community develops, it's all money. He writes: "Very few instructors bother with 'connection'. I wonder how many even know of it? Many don't even bother with 'lead'. Just push and pull and consider the ladies 'objects'. Move them around and they'll think they're doing Tango. Teachers are mechanizing Argentine Tango." Well! I do not believe that teachers want this, but students may push this with their instructors.

The problem is that people can learn "steps" in a much quicker amount of time than they can learn "connection". Steps make you feel like you're dancing tango, but then when you dance with someone who has a great connection but few "steps", you remember what it's all about. Don't fall into this trap! Fancy steps without connection is, in my opinion, about as attractive as a Paint by Numbers Monet. Or ballroom dance. Is this where ballroom tango veered off from Argentine? More later....
