[Tango] Tango message from Buenos Aires

I know I have been horribly neglectful of you the last month, but it's difficult to write when there is so much to do here, including the beautiful opportunity to sit under the sun and do nothing. The weather is sunny again after some days of rain, and yesterday there was an event at the Cabildo with live orchestras and dancing, so I went to 3 milongas in one day.
I have no more lessons to teach here or obligations to keep, and have had time to party with my BA friends, take more lessons and dance until as late as I'd like. I heard this recently: It's true and the message needs to be kept alive. I believe it's not possible to truly understand Tango without regular, multiple visits to Buenos Aires to dance in the milongas and to see what it really is. Yes, you can love Tango as a dance, and for some people that's enough, but really understanding it is something else. There is no substitute.
Of course it's expensive to travel here, so if you can't go yourself, at least you can study with a teacher who goes regularly and has the ability and will to translate the experience to students.
This year's trip ends Monday, as we leave in time to teach the Tuesday classes. Remember when I first get back, my desire to make the tango community the best is at a fever pitch. This is the best time to get in on the classes!! Check the website for details.
Here are just a few Buenos Aires truths:
Every guy in Intermediate lessons on up can follow. When I take a class or go to a practica, I always alternate roles with my partners, and they are good. Guys, learn to follow!
Dance with the music. If the dance isn't musical, it's no fun for anyone, no matter the high level of move.
A simple step, with a little skill and practice, can be made into something pretty spectacular. A complicated step done poorly or without concern for a partner's feelings, is rude.
A follower, no matter her age, beauty or money, CAN make a man want to dance with her again and again. (But youth, beauty and money helps!)
Women really appreciate a man with some manners.
More to follow!
