It seems hard to believe, but one week ago I was sitting on the roof terrace in a tank top, enjoying an asado (Argentine barbeque), afterwards sitting at Beatriz' table at Porteno y Bailarin, drinking champagne, watching the performance and getting in my last dances and hugs with the handsome and talented Argentine men. Now today I am in three layers, lamenting not putting the window plastic up.
As those of you who have been in class before when I return from Buenos Aires, you know that I get a little more adamant that we really start improving our dancing here. The reason I started teaching so many years ago was very selfish - I wanted to have good dancers to dance with. I know we can do better, and I'm determined to have you all feel the wonderful feeling that sends us so many miles. It's not that difficult! Luckily, I brought back some new tools to get you there. Back to technique-let's get going! Check out the schedule at www.mndance.com.
Tuesday night party may have a little extra food, since I won the cookbook door prize at TSoM (accident?? I wonder...) Also, I need another favor. It has been suggested that I come up with a decent name for our little party/dance/get-together. I'm not good at naming things - ask my cat, Kitty. Any suggestions?
Third Saturday November 15th is the monthly Black Dog Milonga. 7:30 lesson, dance 8 to 12:00PM. Lots of fun! Relaxed, no pressure atmosphere, combined with good friends, great food, wine and dancing. Black Dog Cafe, Broadway and Prince street, by the Farmers Market, St. Paul, MN. Cover $5 Wine, beer and food available. Thanks to Ilia for covering this event last month. I know you need your Black Dog!
Workshops with Ernest Williams
You have heard me talking about Candombe and Canyengue, and a few of you have taken some classes on these with me. January 18, 19 and 20th, I am bringing to town Ernest Williams, a great dancer who has specialized not only in tango, but also the forms known as Candombe and Canyengue.
A native of Philadelphia and currently based in Chicago, Ernest has grown up around mostly R&B and Hip Hop music and dance. He started dancing Tango in 2000 in Monterey, CA with Argentina-born Fernando Filipelli as his first instructor. While living in Hawaii in 2002 Ernest started teaching formally at the request of fellow tango dancers due to his ability to translate the more difficult concepts of Tango. Since 2003 Ernest has traveled nationally and internationally gathering a wealth of knowledge and experience in the world of dance from various sources.
