Tonight, Monday, is Following for Leaders. Drop-in, casual, fun classes that are often eye-opening. If you are interested in what women want, or don't want, try this class! 8:30 PM, 3142 1st Ave S.
Milonga month continues - new steps, new techniques to make your milonga very fun! Technique is essential in milonga. You need very few steps to make milonga delightful, but they have to be done right. Followers-don't neglect learning milonga correctly. Don't think it's all just "stepping on every beat". If you do that you'll limit your leader's ability to give you a fantastic dance.
Thursday - DON'T FORGET! The classes are at 3142 1st Ave S. We are working on the best way to do milonga - small.
Tuesday night is the "third place milonga": free or inexpensive; food and drink, while not essential, are important; highly accessible: proximate for many (walking distance); involve regulars - those who habitually congregate there; welcoming and comfortable; both new friends and old should be found there."
9:30, 3142 1st Ave S.
Third Saturday, (that's this one) August 18th is the monthly Black Dog Milonga. 7:30 lesson, dance 8 to 12:00PM. Yes, that's right, they let us stay until 12 now! Broadway and Prince street, by the Farmers Market, St. Paul.
Coming up - Tuesday, AUGUST 28th 9 Nights of Music at the Minnesota History Center with Mandragora Tango. Tango lesson at 6:30 with Lois Donnay, then dancing to the great music of Mandragora Tango, Minnesota's only live tango orchestra.
Saturday, August 25th- Musicality class with Bob Barnes, leader of Mandragora Tango Orchestra, who just returned from a music study trip to Buenos Aires. He will try to impart some of the things he learned.
Looking for a practice partner? Let me know and I'll help you look. One word of caution, though - don't practice so much that you forget how to dance at a milonga. At a milonga, your partner is not your practice dummy. He/she is your partner in the dance, your companion on the journey to discover the music. Try out new moves/embellishments with your practice partner, try out your best moves on the milonga floor.
