Thanks to everyone who came to the Black Dog this weekend, proving that
I am not necessary for you to have a great time at the Black Dog. The
good news is that the lesson I taught in Plymouth had probably 70 people
in it, and there was a lot of interest. These people are from other
dance communities, so are likely to follow through!
Tonight (Monday) is Lindsays practica at the Oddfellows Hall, located
above the Hampden Park Co-op on the corner of Hampden and Raymond
Avenues in St Paul (entry on Hampden Ave). Time: 9-11pm. Contact her by
email (orrxx058 at umn.edu) or phone (651-249-1433) with questions. Ill be
there!
Tuesday is tango at Vino 610, Lake and Lyndale Ave S. Not only are the
bottles of wine half price, but there is a coupon for $10 off a $30 tab
in City Pages this week. Cheap night! We start about 9:45.
This weekend is another of my Fourth Saturday workshops. The theme this
time is Performance Tango. Many of you are getting requests and
opportunities to perform, or at least to demonstrate some tango. Well
explore the differences between tango for your partner and tango for an
audience, plus learn an easy move or two designed to impress your
audience. As always, well find a blues club or other venue to dance
afterward. Workshop starts at 7:30 PM. For this workshop you may want to
bring your own partner, and dress to move. $15, held at 3142 1st Ave S,
Mpls. Afterwards, well find some place to go dance, so come and join us
about 9 PM.
The Old Arizona studio, where I now hold my Tuesday and Thursday
classes, is at 2831 Nicollet S. Classes are in the purple building
behind the flower shop, on the second floor. Ring the doorbell and a red
light flashes that tells us to let you in. Free, plentiful parking
across the street.
Considering coming to Buenos Aires with my group? Let me know! This will
be an exciting trip for me since I will be performing there with my
Buenos Aires tango partner, and I would love to have some of my homies
in the audience. Airfare is a little daunting, but once you get there
its so cheap! We are leaving on November 15th, but some of the group is
leaving before.
Coming up! The Fifth Friday dance and all-night milonga at the 42nd Ave
Ballroom! September 29th. This time we will have a guest DJ Chris from
Iowa!

Rob Curtos Forró for All
October 3rd, 7:30 pm
The pulse of Brazilian nightlife beats at Ordway Center in
the sultry and exotic Forró For All. Forró music emerged as a response
to life in the arid Northeastern climate and blossomed into a wildly
popular source of entertainment and expression, inspiring its own
passionate dance style and a fervent following across Brazil and around
the world. Accompanied by brilliant musicians, celebrated accordionist
Rob Curto epitomizes the authentic spirit of forró pé de serra and the
heart of Brazilian culture.
