This week we will be exploring some new subjects that we haven't
covered in awhile. I have received requests on how to follow morditas
and other stepover type moves - we'll explore how to lead them
effectively and follow them beautifully.

August is Milonga Month - don't worry, there's plenty of air
conditioning at Old Arizona, where we currently hold Tuesday and
Thursday classes. 29th and Nicollet S, purple building. The door code
is 13524.

After class Tuesday we always go to Vino 610, Lyndale and Lake for
their half price bottles of wine. Come join us for a few tangos!
Thursday, you can come to class early and indulge in a glass of wine
at the Old Arizona cafe. They have a beautiful courtyard!

Upcoming:

Floorcraft and navigation Seminar, Saturday, July 22nd, 6:30 to 8:00 PM

I have received a lot of questions and heard concerns lately about
dancing in crowded spaces and in Buenos Aires . "Dancing on a tile" is
one of the marks of a great tango dancer (and can be a lot of fun)! Of
course, there are dance spaces here, and certainly in Bs.As, where
this skill isn't just desired, it is required.

Leaders need to work with each other on the dancefloor. A leader are
responsible for everyone on the floor, not just the woman in your
arms. If you cannot dance small in these spaces you will not get many
dances. Followers need to respond quickly and surely, so the leader
can keep them safe. If a follower anticipates, does her own
embellishments without the knowledge of her partner, or doesn't have
quality footwork, he can't keep her safe. She will not be asked to
dance much, or the dance will be extremely simple.

Floorcraft and Dancing in Small Spaces Seminar

We will study how to effectively navigate the dancefloor, no matter
what the traffic. Lots of small moves, evasion techniques and
directional ideas, and strategies to keep your partner, the music, the
floor and all the other dancers in mind when you dance. You will learn
the "rules of the road" and of course we'll practice all of this!

Leaders:

What to do when the traffic stops.

How to effectively use the smallest opening.

Followers:

How to keep your feet under you and get your leader to trust you

How to find and play in the space that the leader gives you

We will also discuss how to have the proper mindset and etiquette to
get multiple dances in Bs.As.

(Sometimes the people who need this the most don't know it. Please
feel free to forward this to people who you feel need it. But also
remember, the only person we can fix is ourselves!)

Seminar held at:

3142 1st Ave S.

Minneapolis, MN 55408

Cost $15 Students $11

Afterwards, we'll head out together to a dance, or maybe hang out and
dance in the backyard! BYOB just in case! Everyone is welcome to join
us.

Sunday, July 30th, Tango and General Dance Boat Cruise!
12:30PM to 4PM on the Betsey Northrup, Harriet Island in downtown St.
Paul. Departing at 1:00 PM - do not be late! Pick up your advance
tickets from David or me. $25 in advance. Looks like we'll have a nice
crowd on this one!
