Hi-
Twin Cities' Public Television will broadcast "Cafe Europa" on New
Year's Eve (this Sunday!) from 6 to 7:30 PM on channel 17. If you are
missing your Sunday night Mandragora fix, you can still get it and never
have to leave home! "Cafe Europa" is a musical travelogue staring our
friend Dan Chouinard. It was recorded live at the Fitzgerald Theater in
May, 2005
(http://www.mandragoratango.com/archives/2005/05/caf_europa_at_t.html).
Basically, Dan tells stories about biking across France and Italy with
his accordion, but he gets a cast of fabulous musicians to play songs
from all of his stops. His guests include "Prairie Home Companion"
favorites Prudence Johnson and Peter Ostrushko, soprano Maria Jette,
gypsy accordionist Mark Stillman, Russian vocalist Sima Shumilovsky,
the Rose Ensemble (early music) and, of course, the full Mandragora
Tango Orchestra!
Also, don't forget about our Milonga at Tapestry Folkdance Center. It's
on Friday night, 8-11PM at 3748 Minnehaha Ave in South Minneapolis.
(http://tapestryfolkdance.org/). They've got a great wooden floor and
we're gonna play some great tunes. We hope to see you there.
-Bob
