GENERAL NEWS

BUENOS AIRES NEWS - ‘Was over 100 degrees Feb. 19, then rained Feb. 20 and
21. ‘Met a little old lady on street on way to supermercado with her little
grocery cart. After I stepped in some dog feces, and from what little
Spanish I understand, she said she was from Italy, and the people in B.A.
were undisciplined for not cleaning up after their dogs. We walked arm in
arm to the store, she said her name was Juanita, (Jovana in Italian), and
wished me suerte (luck). ‘Walked down what I thought was a nice street and
saw a homeless young woman lying on a mattress on the sidewalk with her
baby! On the subways people, even children, walk through and try and sell
things or a musical group will play, and then hold out their hat for money.
‘Saw a brother and sister about 12 yrs. old do a fantastic tango
demonstration at a milonga at Club Gricel. There is usually a little swing,
salsa, and chaquerena, a flirtatious folkdance, done in the middle of the
milongas. Even the 85-year-old men are out doing those dances as well as
tango. I will return to Mpls. on Mar. 4.
