I am forwarding this review that I got of the new Sunday dancing at Cinema
Ballroom, St. Paul.

Charmin was not there Sunday, I think it was just because of the holiday
weekend as there was a certain buzz in the room expecting her vocals early
on.
They played about 1/3 - 40% swing. I don't know if that was because Charmin
was gone or not. There were about sixty in attendance which sounded like
was large for this newish gig. Cover is $12, something under that for
students (didn't pay attention). It's three short sets. I didn't stay
until the very end but it appeared to be a 7-10 sharp event.
I don't know how often I'll be going to this. 5:45 am comes quick most
Mondays even with the early start and finish. Though I might stop in
occasionally for the first set or two. If you go bring a fast pair of dance
shoes. I brought three pair and only the slickest pair worked. Both my
mid-traction and semi-slick pairs stayed stuck to the floor when I first
tried to spin with them. Don't know if it was just that night or not but
I'll definitely bring a few pairs of shoes along to this venue until I
figure out the floor. It danced well on Sunday. It just seemed real
"tight" for a dedicated dance studio.
They've got several round tables at the far end of the hall from the band
and a limited amount of seating on what was the projectionist walkway from
when it was a cinema. There is a small rehearsal room above the band shell.
It's a nice set-up.
Plenty of work to do here, so I have to get going.
Dan
