[MNDancers] Bad news from Eagles

Tonight at Eagles, Becky Thompson announced that next Monday will be their
last night playing at the Eagles Club on 25th and 25th Ave S, Mpls. Besides
that, the Sunday afternoon country dance has also been cancelled. This is
indeed sad news to the 150 plus dancers who gathered there every Monday.

The reasons are hard to determine. Mostly it is the lack of revenue, from
dancers who drink a lot of water and even are said to sneak it in. 200
customers in a bar usually require more than one bartender. The music may
not have been the style they want. Eagles have raised their drink prices,
(still very reasonable) but this is not necessarily fair to the regulars who
come in not to dance, but just hang out at the bar.

Monday nights will be replaced, it is rumored, with a blues jam. Of course
the WCS dancers won't mind and will still be there, but country venues are
getting harder to find. Two blues nights might affect Wednesdays with the
Butanes as well, as that night draws a nice number of swing dancers. We will
have to see. Alphalfa Males still pull in a nice dance crowd on Saturdays,
but I hear Fridays is their big night, with rock bands and younger
non-dancers

It is sad that the Eagles didn't give us a chance to prove we are a worthy
crowd. We may have been able to do something. In our single-minded rush to
satisfy our dance fix, we sometimes forget that dance floors and good bands
are at a premium here. So next time you go out, buy a drink, tip, and say
thank you.
