Dear dancers and jazz fans,
I'm writing to you about a new and exciting event at Matty B's Supper
Club. We're starting a once-a-month early Sunday evening gathering
designed as a nexus for the social dance and jazz communities in the
Twin Cities. Christine Rosholt and a five piece band will kick off
our first Sunday dance, playing danceable jazz standards. Christine's
band is a favorite of our patrons and has packed the dance floor at
Matty B's in previous gigs. On Sunday we'll take the fun one step
further: the restaurant will be closed for dinner and our entire main
floor dining area will be cleared for dancing! The $10 entry fee
includes light appetizers and there will be a full cash bar with all
your favorite Matty B's beverages at our normal great prices. Come
and hang out June 4 after Grand Old Day in our cool retro environment
(vintage duds optional). Doors open at 5:00, there will be a
beginners' lesson at 5:15, and the band will play from 6 to 10. The
floor is plenty big enough for traveling dances like foxtrot and
waltz, so we will designate some time for these as well as swing and
Latin.
We're issuing an open invitation for instructors and/or studios to
network with our guests. You can gain visibility and contribute to
the fun atmosphere in several ways. We invite you or your students to
present an exhibition dance (an informal lead/follow or a
choreographed number) in the breaks between the band's sets. As our
way of thanking you, we'll display your publicity pamphlets at our
restaurant for our customers, who frequently inquire about where they
can learn partner dancing. If you choose not to exhibit in our
inaugural Sunday event, we invite you to come and dance socially and
network anyway, and please contact us for future
promotional/exhibition opportunities at Matty B's.
We also invite any and all intermediate or advanced dancers to join
the Matty B. Gang, a fun group of volunteers who meet to partner dance
informally outside in downtown St. Paul, bringing smiles to people on
their lunch break or those who are on their way home after work. This
is great fun for amateurs, and good publicity/visibility for
instructors. You can participate every week, or just once in a while.
We're glad to have you, and we'll feed you a great Matty B's lunch
afterward! And occasionally, you may even find yourself on T.V. (see
recent footage from Rosen's sports program posted on our website).
Please join us on June 4, and check out our live jazz every Friday and
Saturday. Our entertainment events are advertised on our website and
in the Dancing Times as well as through jazz calendars sponsored by
radio stations Jazz 88 and Minnesota Public Radio. If you have any
questions or would like to do a dance demo, please contact me via
email (sarah at mattybs.com<mailto:sarah at mattybs.com>) or leave me a
message at the restaurant at 651-291-0404. Attached please find an 8
1/2 x 14 inch poster for the event in pdf format if you would like to
print it out and display it (you can also choose the "print to fit"
function for your printer and print it out in 8 1/2 x 11, although it
won't be as pretty).
Keep on dancing,
