Matty B's Supper Club is in the old Gallivan's space, a St. Paul
institution for
many decades (354 North Wabasha; 651-291-0404; www.mattybs.com). Once
known for
the political deals cut in its "smoky back room," the restaurant and bar are
now a smoke-free upscale dining experience. The new owners have preserved the
original mahogany paneling and bar while adding the special touch of crystal
chandelier lighting and a new Brazilian dance floor! Where else can you dine
and dance like previous generations could? Matty B's is currently featuring
danceable live jazz ensembles on weekends and plans to cater to the
local dance
community--the owners are long-time students of ballroom and Latin dance in
local studios and want to foster those connections.
