Hi Everyone
The conditions at the B-Dale, at the last dance, were truly pretty
overwhelming for most. I appologize for the non-existant A/C that night.
We learned later that the A/C was broken but also the guy who takes care
of the A/C was in the hospital. They have no back up. I wrote a letter
to the B-Dale complaining about the conditions, indicating that as a 20+
year renter of the facility, we deserved better. I'm attending their next
board meeting to further discuss the situation and hopefully work with
them to develop an action plan for implementing some workable
improvements.
Even when the A/C is turned on mid afternoon and the room is pretty cool
to start, the room will warm up but nothing like the last dance. We've
come to expect hotter conditions during the summer than we have during the
rest of the year, but this was over the top. Obviously, the Board does
not want you to stop coming to dances at the B-Dale due to conditions you
may have experienced at the last dance. Like we did several years ago, we
are again moving a couple of our dances during July and August to cooler
locations. We are doing that again this summer, the first dance to be at
Murzen on July 28. The second dance is in August, but we haven't firmed
on the date or place.
After the last dance, one of our members wrote an email to a number of
you, expressing her concern for the safety of our dancers, in particular
older dancers and those with heart or respiratory conditions. These are
concerns that shouldn't be dismissed. Workout videos or dance
instruction videos typically inform the viewer to check with their
physician before entering an exercise program. Dancing is exercise.
Those who have concerns of this nature should take special precautions,
especially when high heat and humidity conditions exist. Remember, DRINK
PLENTY OF WATER and "listen" to your bodies.
Again, thank you for your continued support of our dances. I'll see you
on the dance floor.
